Does Skotch have wiring diagrams for specific valve configurations (i.e. FC, SPDT)?
Certified electrical WD will be supplied when specified in purchase the order only. The standard WD for basic configuration is in the I&O manual.
Why are oil valves steam side temperature only rated for 450°F? Can the valves be rated for higher temperatures?
PTFE packing set is rated for 450°F max. Contact the factory for specific requirement regarding max steam side temp. Optional Grafoil packing is available; other issues may have to address as well.
I need to replace my Skotch oil (or gas) solenoids, what information will I need to order new ones?
If the valve is pre-1998, and/or is the green/blue solenoid valve, you will need a "Versa Retrofit Kit" for starters. Providing the valve serial # is best, or you can provide Failure Mode, Voltage, and Area Classification (Hazardous or non-hazardous).
What is the carbon steel (Nema 4) junction box coated with?
Standard Nema 4 junction boxes are coated with ANSI #61 gray polyester Urethane powder coating. (Nema 4X junction boxes have brushed aluminum finish.)
What oil valve differences exist between the standard ambient temp rating of 140°F and the high temp rating of 180°F?
T500/1000/2000 valves have been FM approved for temperatures up to 140°F. We can supply valves at higher temperature rating up to 180°F but not FM approved.
The new oil stem spare part I just received for a Skotch Oil Valve looks different than the one I took out, why?
In 1995, a number of changes were made to the oil side of the valve, which requires a whole "oil side retrofit kit". If the old stem is different than the new one, it likely that the retrofit kit was never installed. Contact the factory for the retrofit kit.
My oil pressure requirements are above the 300 PSI standard oil valve offering, what options are available to me?
Special valve trim parts are available to increase oil pressure above 300 PSI. However, above 600 PSI requires changing over to electrohydraulic actuator. Please note that electrohydraulic actuator will work best at pressures above 300 psi. This is available on T1000/T2000 series valves only.
What are the instrument supply air pressure requirements for the Skotch valves?
Minimum air supply pressure at the solenoid inlet is 70 psi for oil valves and 60 psi for gas valves but not to exceed 120 psi. The air must be clean, oil-free instrument air quality. Refer to ISA-S7.3. For quality standard for instrument air.
What are the recommended oil flow rates for Skotch oil valves?
1) T500 - 1.5 to 10.0 gallons per minute recommended.
2) T1000/T2000 - 12.0-25.0 gallons per minute recommended.
If I require Nema 7 rated electrical components, do I specify Nema 4 or 4X for Ingress protection?
Nema 7 is typically specified for indoor service for hazardous locations classified as Class 1, Groups A, B, C or D, as defined in by the NEC. Nema 4 or 4X are enclosures specification for outdoor service and non-hazardous locations. If the application is outdoors (non-hazardous), then you must specify either Nema 4 or 4X.
My Skotch valve is opening too slowly, what could be the problem?
Trouble shoot the problem as follows:
My Skotch valve is closing too slowly, what could be the problem?
Trouble shoot the problem as follows:
The limit switches on my Skotch valves are not consistently changing state, even though the valve visual orientation shows the change, what could be the problem?
The limit switches are set for a conservative indication of the valve block position. The switch only changes state within the last 1/16" of stem travel. Reset the switch per I&O manual; if problem still exists, contact the factory for additional advice.
My Skotch valve requires rebuilding, what are my options?
Skotch valves can be rebuilt in-line. But the preferred method is to remove the valve from the line and work is performed in a clean work area. Rebuild kits are available, as well as, suggestions for rebuilding the valve. It can also be shipped back to the factory for an evaluation and rework. Valves rebuilt by the factory-trained technicians are warranted for 1 year. Factory trained technician's will train customer's personnel on-site or at the factory. Contact the factory for details.
